One of the things I appreciate about these adaptations of the canon is that they make implicit that Holmes faked his death in order to protect Watson. Fangirls have been saying it for years; these adaptations make it text.

At some point I’m going to have a Reichenbach party. Probably when I’m feeling weepy to begin with. I will watch all the Reichenbach interpretations that I own. Then I’ll follow them up with a good dose of Empty House. Because I’m not, in fact, a masochist.
